Most of the students or newly graduates often get a lot of trouble in choosing the internship they should invest their time in. There is no certain criteria for the same but there are some points that should be kept in mind. First of all, we should know what is an internship and what are the types of internships.
What Does Internship Mean ?
Internship is a time period during which a student or a new graduate gets practical experience through a job in whichever field they have an interest in, or the course they have graduated in or are pursuing.
Types Of Internships
Internships are of various types – paid & unpaid , full-time & part-time . Paid internships are those where you get paid for the work that you do, you do not get paid in unpaid internships but you receive other benefits like Certificate, LOR etc. Full-time internships are those where you have to give proper 8 hours of your day to the work, whereas in part-time internship, you have to give time according to the amount of work. Now, discussing what kind of internship you should do. It depends on various factors which are as follows: Choose according to the course you are pursuing or have graduated in – If you want to gain good experience in the field you want to build up your career in, then you should go for internships related to the degree you have got or are going to get because that will help you gain practical knowledge and experience for the same.
Choose based on your Interest & Skills – If you do not wish to pursue the internship related to your program of study, you can choose it based on your interest. Suppose, you have opted for science but you wish to go for graphics designing and you have got the required skills then you can definitely go for it.
Push your limits & Explore – You can also try out various new internships and grab opportunities different from your interest that can help you improve in various spheres. For example, you can go for Sales internships if you want to improve your communication skills. You can go for Content writing if you want to be better at creative writing and thinking and many more. Internships are a great source of gaining knowledge and experience. So, you can always explore and grab new opportunities.
